NIE Graduate Student Conference 2022

The NIE Graduate Student Conference 2022 (NIEGSC 2022) is a conference organised by graduate students, for graduate students. It will be held on Saturday, 5 November 2022* at the National Institute of Education (NIE), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore**. NIEGSC 2022 seeks to provide a forum for NIE and NTU graduate students to share and discuss their research as well as (re-)connect and interact professionally.

*This conference is planned as a physical event, and it is subject to change in accordance with the prevailing COVID-19 safe management measures.
**You MUST be in Singapore on the conference date to join.

Conference background

NIEGSC 2022 is a continuation of previous NIE graduate student conferences, which began in 2012 as “Graduate Student Day” and from 2016 as “Graduate Student Conference” until 2018. In 2020, the conference was organised as a webinar event (IGSW 2020). This year, the conference is co-organised by the Office of Graduate Studies and Professional Learning (GPL) and NIE Graduate Student Club (NIE GSC).

Conference objective and scope

The theme of the NIEGSC2022 is Methodologies in Research: Innovations and Insights. This conference aims to explore methodologies and approaches in teaching and learning in the post-COVID situation. The conference will offer an opportunity for NIE/NTU graduate students to share their research insights and innovations, (re)connect and discuss ways to advance methodologies in research and pedagogy.

Title of Keynote Address
Edupreneurship - Do we have the next unicorn?

Abstract
Technology drives innovation. In today's digitally connected world, technology has enabled more learning solutions. Some of them are great innovations. Some of them are pure snake oil, driven mainly by commercial interests. To better serve our learning communities, educators should be more involved in the edtech building journey. In this keynote, the speaker will share how, with the right can-do attitude coupled with the research educational know-how, we might unearth the unicorn among us.

About the Speaker
Dr. Ng holds a PhD in Neuroscience from Queensland Brain Institute, Australia and a Bachelor of Computer Engineering degree. He also holds an MBA and is an alumnus of INSEAD where he studied Corporate Governance under the International Directors Programme. He was a visiting scholar to Harvard Medical School and was actively involved in the local start-up scenes among other work. His main research interest is in understanding the neural correlates of the brain networks related to human learning and environment. He has over two decades of experience in building digital solutions in healthcare, business and technology. He is currently the Head of Digital Learning @ Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine where he leads and contributes in the areas of digital transformation and deployment of tools and solutions for more effective medical education and training outcome.
